Roland Garros: Aryna Sabalenka stops at the most beautiful
Roland Garros: Aryna Sabalenka surrenders to Karolina Muchova
The number two seed Aryna Sabalenka is stopped at the most beautiful point at Roland Garros. In fact, the Belarusian tennis player was defeated in the semifinals by Czech Karolina Muchova after 3 hours and 13 minutes with a score of 6-7 7-6 5-7.
A match as beautiful as it was hard-fought, so much so that in the first two partials it came down to a tie-break: the first was won by Muchova for 7 points to 5, the second was won by Sabalenka with the same score. In the third set the world number two takes the lead and it seems all done at 5-2 when she earns the first match point. Here, however, came the reaction of the Czech tennis player who cancelled the match point and strung together a run of five consecutive games, hitting a historic final.
Sabalenka must say goodbye to the Paris Slam, while Muchova awaits the winner between Swiatek and Haddad Maia.
What is now being staged is the 122nd edition of the French Open, one of the four tournaments that are part of the Grand Slam, the second in order of time after the Australian Open, which in 2023 was won by Serbia’s Novak Djokovic among the men and Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka among the women.
