Camila Giorgi says goodbye after the first round of the WTA tournament in Birmingham: the athlete from the Marche region was not able to overcome the eternal Venus Williams, 43, who returned to the circuit with the aim of getting in shape ahead of her participation in Wimbledon.

The match was balanced from start to finish: the Williams, who currently occupies the number 697 position in the world rankings but who with her sister Serena has dominated the circuit for more than a decade, finished in three sets, 7-6(5), 4-6, 7-6(6), even overcoming a problem in her right leg that had required a “medical time out.”

For Giorgi, England is so far stingy with satisfaction: before Birmingham, in fact, she played the Nottingham tournament, stopping in the second round against Elizabeth Mandlik.
