Lorenzo Musetti, message to Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini
Lorenzo Musetti beyond personal ambitions
On the sidelines of his first-round success at Queen’s against Jan Choinski, Lorenzo Musetti spoke about the situation of Italian tennis and team ambitions relative to tournaments reserved for national teams, such as the prestigious Davis Cup.
In his words, Musetti spurs his compatriots, Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini above all, to aim to win the Salad Bowl to give even more vigor to the Italian tennis movement: “Being part of a group of players like this is really important. The key to excel in Davis is ambition, we have it: me, but also Jannik and Matteo, we have to inspire the very young as Fabio Fognini or Simone Bolelli inspired us. I really hope I can inspire and enthuse a lot of kids.”
Musetti, from Carrara, born in 2002, is currently No. 2 Italian in the ATP ranking, behind Jannik Sinner. He has won two tournaments on the professional circuit, both in 2022: in Hamburg in the final against Carlos Alcaraz and in Naples, defeating Matteo Berrettini in the last act.
