Venus Williams did not give Camila Giorgi a hard time at the end of her first-round match at the Birmingham WTA, which saw the U.S. tennis player prevail in the third set after an incredible battle lasting more than three hours.

“I am surprised that Camila Giorgi is not number one in the world,” she told WTA Tour microphones, with a sarcastic laugh. Williams’ jibe probably stemmed from Camila’s jubilation at the end of a point where the multiple Slam champion had ended up on the ground after a bad fall.

“I thought the match could end at any moment with one of her winners. She pushed me to be better than I thought I could be, I hadn’t felt that way in a long time and I missed it a lot. It feels good in the end to have won the match,” concluded the 43-year-old American.
