European Games: blue women foils on continental team throne
At the European Games being held in Krakow, Italy women’s foil confirmed its continental queen by beating France in the final, just as it did a year ago in Antalya.
Martina Batini, Martina Favaretto, Francesca Palumbo, and Alice Volpi, after monopolizing the podium two weeks ago in the individual competition in Plovdiv, with Batini gold, Favaretto silver, and Palumbo and Volpi bronze ex-aequo, confirmed their place on the European roof. The transalpine women in the challenge for the title were defeated by the Italian women 45-40.
It went almost as well in the men’s saber but Luca Curatoli, Michele Gallo, Matteo Neri and Luigi Samele, again in the face of France, were bowed out 45-42.
