Max Verstappen on pole at Silverstone ahead of McLaren duo, then Ferraris
On a Silverstone circuit where it was very difficult to drive because of the slippery track due to the rain that fell at times, Max Verstappen in the Red Bull i at the wheel of a McLaren that is resoundingly resurrected and also places in third position, at 372 thousandths, Oscar Piastri, an Australian who has been racking up successes in the minor categories and who finally launches his first Formula 1 treble.
Without infamy or praise the Ferraris: fourth at 416 thousandths Charles Leclerc, fifth at 428 Carlos Sainz. Sixth and seventh at 435 and 491 thousandths were the Mercedes of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton. Also outstanding was Thailand’s Alexander Albon, eighth in the Williams, ninth Fernando Alonso in an Aston Martin in free fall from the start of the season, tenth Pierre Gasly in the Alpine.
Out instead already in Q1 was the other Red Bull, that of Sergio Perez, sixteenth and coming out of the pits too early after the resumption of the mini-session that had been red-flagged due to a problem with Kevin Magnussen’s Haas: the Mexican was overtaken by fifteen competitors who, unlike him, took advantage of the drying track.
