Horst Hrubesch interim coach of Germany women
Former national team member Horst Hrubesch, the 1980 European champion with Germany, è has been appointed interim coach of the German women’s team.
He will replace Martina Voss-Tecklenburg "until further notice," announced the German Football Association (DFB) in a statement:"Horst Hrubesch è returned to the DFB. At age 72, he succeeds on an interim basis the ailing Martina Voss-Tecklenburg as coach of the women’s team".
In March 2018, after Steffi Jones was exonerated, he had already taken over on an interim basis until the following November. Martina Voss-Tecklenburg did not attend the September internship for health reasons. Her husband Hermann Tecklenburg explained to the German press that his wife è returned from the World Cup in Australia "physically and mentally tried".
A double scorer in the 1980 Euro final with the Mannschaft and winner of the Champions Cup in 1983 with Hamburg, Hrubesch will be assisted by Thomas Nörenberg and Britta Carlson. As coach of the German men’s youth teams, Hrubesch won the European under-19 title in 2008 and under-21 title in 2009.
