Italian Cup: Sassuolo wins it only on penalties with Spezia
Sassuolo overcame Spezia on penalties at the Mapei Stadium in the match valid for the Italian Cup round of 16.
Dionisi’s team sweated harder than expected to get the better of Alvini’s men, and there'è succeeded only at the penalty lottery, after regulation time and extra time had ended goalless.
The hosts were very inaccurate in goal, and risked several times conceding the goal that would have ousted them from the competition. On penalties Berardi, Pinamonti, Bajrami, Thorstvedt and Laurientè were flawless, while Cragno’s save on Moro è was decisive for the passage of the round.
In the round of 16, Sassuolo will face Atalanta for a place in the top eight of the tournament.
