Max Verstappen’s words ahead of the Abu Dhabi GP
The 2023 F1 season è has been characterized by the domination of Red Bull and Max Verstappen, who have won 20 of the 21 races held, including as many as 18 won by the Dutchman. Ahead of the final round in Abu Dhabi, the three-time world champion è expressed himself bluntly to the team's official channels about the last weekend of the championship.
"Abu Dhabi è always special for me and the whole team, it evokes sweet memories, winning my first title here on the last lap we will never forget. It's been a long season, but one full of successes. The whole team has worked very hard and everyone deserves a good rest and some time to spend with their friends and families during the winter. It's the last effort and I hope to end the season on a high note" these are the words of Max Verstappen.
To the official Red Bull channels also expressed himself teammate Sergio Perez, who with his third place in Las Vegas secured second place in the drivers championship: "It has been a complicated season, with ups and downs, but going to Abu Dhabi with second place in the championship already secured makes me very happy. I want to finish the season at my best, so I will work hard in the time I have to make sure I am competitive. We had a very good pace in Las Vegas that confirmed the strides we made in Brazil. I want to get the most out of the car once again".
In the press conference on the eve of the three-day Abu Dhabi race Verstappen added other interesting things, talking about his record and his great rival from two years ago Lewis Hamilton.
“54 wins? That would be a crazy number, but I focus on the work and hopefully we will have a competitive car in 2024 to continue this wayì. The best moments of this season? Several, but nice to win in Zandovoort and also in Suzuka. We know the strengths and also the weaknesses of our car, and we will work to improve in low-speed circuits.
“Hamilton as teammate? It won’t happen; but I wouldn’t mind. But I don’t want to point to him becauseé there would be many teammates who might deserve a’chance”.
