Sofia Goggia cautious in downhill race
There'è great expectations for the St. Moritz weekend of the Women’s Alpine Skiing World Cup, the first dedicated to speed after the cancellation of the Zermatt/Cervinia races on Nov. 18 and 19: on Wednesday morning, the athletes were able to take measures on the Corviglia slope, competing in the downhill test.
Unfailingly, the eyes of fans and insiders were focused on Sofia Goggia, four-time winner and current holder of the CdM of the specialty: the athlete from Bergamo, however, did not want to overdo it and preferred to avoid risks, finishing with a time of 1:31.08 in the session that saw Austrian Christina Ager (1:29.93) excel.
Ahead of the Bergamasque athlete there's another Italian, Nicol Delago, who was able to anticipate Goggia's time by 6 hundredths of a second, thus achieving a result that bodes well for Saturday's downhill. For her, too, however, the goal was to assess the conditions and speed of the slope, rather than to focus on the time.
That of St. Moritz will be a weekend, for women, entirely dedicated to speed: the first race è the Super-G on Friday, December 8, which will be followed by the highly anticipated downhill on Saturday, December 9. Closing on the following day, with the second Super-G of the season, which will give a clear idea from the start about the form of the main protagonists of the World Cup.
