Richard Carapaz sets the goal
Richard Carapaz wants the Tour
Coming back from an underwhelming 2023, Richard Carapaz is preparing to start his second season in the ED Education-EasyPost uniform, confident of more than just his two successes (in the Ecuadorian Championships road race and at the Mercan'Tour Classic): indeed, the Ecuadorian climber's goal is very prestigious and it is called Tour de France.
"I want to win the Tour, è my big goal for 2024 – Carapaz told 'GCN' -. In the season we ended things did not go well, just at the Tour I was forced to retire, but next year I want to try again, I want to do something important at the Grande Boucle. I want to forget the past, I can aspire to victory".
The 2019 Giro winner, as well as Olympic champion in Tokyo 2020 in the road race, wants to give satisfaction to the team that believed in him: "The team will give me good opportunities. It's too early to know who will come to France but there are guys like Powless, Amador, Ritsch, Bissegger: great riders and great men".
The Tour de France 2024 will start next June 29 with three stages entirely raced on Italian soil (Florence-Rimini, Cesenatico-Bologna, Piacena-Turin) before the fourth stage that from the Italian roads of Pinerolo will takeà the competing athletes to French territory. The conjunction with the Olympic Games has also led to move the last stage: instead of the traditional finish on the Champs Elysees in Paris, in fact, the last stage will be an individual time trial from Monte Carlo to Nice.
