“Take a cold shower”: Paolo Bertolucci slams Jannik Sinner.
“If you don’t improve also have ice cream.”
In a tournament, the ATP Masters 1000 in Montreal, that has been reaping illustrious victims since the early rounds-after Matteo Berrettini’s untimely exit, it was also the turn of Carlos Alcaraz, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev to say goodbye to the competition-Jannik Sinner struggled more than expected to beat Adrian Mannarino.
After losing the first set, the San Candido native found his game again, closing out the match with a final score of 2-6 6-4 6-2. Yet despite the victory, there was plenty of criticism that rained down on the talented Italian. After an initial raising of shields from early fans, Paolo Bertolucci, an Italian tennis legend and longtime commentator for Sky Sport, also had his say.
“We are on trial if Sinner loses a set,” the former tennis player began in a post on his Twitter profile. With the controversy mounting on social media, Bertoucci then kicked it up a notch with another tweet. Far more explicit. “Ecatombe of seeded players in Montreal! Yes however Sinner can’t lose the first set against that s**t Mannarino! Cold shower and if you don’t improve also have ice cream. Alternatively a slice of watermelon,” he concluded.
