WTA 1000 Madrid, Lucia Bronzetti and Sara Errani in the second round
After the defeats of Martina Treisan and Elisabetta Cocciaretto, Lucia Bronzetti and Sara Errani instead advance to the first round of the WTA 1000 on clay in Madrid by beating respectively with a double 6-3 the Russian competing for the colors of France Varvara Gracheva and the Danish former world number 1 Caroline Wozniacki 3-6 7-5 7-5.
Bronzetti goes ahead 4-1 with a double break in the first set, Gracheva recovers one but Lucia takes home the partial by snatching service to zero from her opponent. Only one break in the second set instead in favor of the Rimini player, who does so in the eighth game and immediately afterwards closes the match after an hour and 10 minutes by holding her serve to zero.
Far more complicated was Errani’s match, who in the first set went down 4-1 with a double break, in the next four games there were as many breaks and then the set was won by Wozniacki, who on the 1-1 even of the second set saved herself from 0-40 on her own serve and missed one in turn in the eighth game. From the ninth to’eleventh game there are three consecutive breaks, two are in favor of Sara who misses three set points serving at 5-4 but at 6-5 the fourth è the good one.
The Italian goes 2-0 in the third set. she is taken back on 2-2, then goes up 4-2, then she is aocaintained by the Dane on 4-4, finally the set (and the match) closes exactly like the second one with three breaks from the ninth to the eleventh game, two in favor of the Romagnola who on 6-5 closes on the second match point after two hours and 50 minutes of battle. In the second round Sara will face Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, while Lucia will face Russian-Kazakh Elena Rybakina, fresh winner in Stuttgart.
