Aleix Espargaró announces retirement at the end of the season
"At the end of the season I will retire as a full-time MotoGP rider". This was announced in Barcelona by Aleix Espargaró, an Aprilia rider since 2017.
"Physically I still feel competitive, but my head tells me I need to spend some time' with the family. Thanks to Aprilia, the last two years have been a dream" added the Spanish rider, who will turn 35 next July 30.
"I would like to be more at home, I love to be with my children. È very difficult when you want to be at the top in MotoGP and you are a rider all year round" he added, very moved.
Aleix Espargaró, older brother of Pol, has been racing steadily in MotoGP since 2012 after already competing there for a year and a half in 2009 and 2010. He has won 3 Grand Prix, Argentina 2022, Great Britain and Catalunya 2023, all with the’Aprilia.
In 2022 è he was fourth in the final MotoGP standings. Earlier in his career, he competed instead in 125 from 2004 to 2006, in 250 from 2007 to mid-2009 and in Moto2 in 2011. In total, the Grand Prix he has competed in MotoGP are 326.
