Giro d’Italia 2024 to Tadej Pogacar: “A unique experience.”
A Giro dominated, and celebrated in Rome.
Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) won the Giro d'Italia 2024, wearing the overall leader’s Pink Jersey from stage 2 to the Grand Arrival in Rome on Sunday. In second and third place were Daniel Felipe Martinez (Bora – Hansgrohe) and Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers), respectively.
The final stage of Giro 2024, the 125-kilometer Rome-Rome, è went instead to Tim Merlier (Soudal Quick-Step). In second and third place were Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek) and Kaden Groves (Alpecin – Deceuninck), respectively, all with the same time as the winner.
"I will carry with me forever great memories of the Giro and of this day in Rome – said Pogacar after the arrival of the last stage – The Maglia Rosa è really special, and to wear it for 20 days è was a unique experience. Today with the team we controlled everything perfectly, avoiding risks, too bad Molano did not have his best day. I am happy for everyone who supported me from day one".
In addition to the Maglia Rosa, guaranteed to the leader of the General Classification, Pogacar closes the Giro d'Italia 2024 wearing also the Maglia Azzurra, i.e., that of the leader of the Grand Prix of the Mountain. The Cyclamen Jersey, that of the leader of the Points Classification, goes instead to Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek), the White Jersey (leader of the Youth Classification, born after 01/01/1999) to Antonio Tiberi (Bahrain Victorious).
