U.S. Open, Sara Errani leads the ranks of the Italian women’s team in the qualifying bracket
For Elisabetta Cocciaretto it will be the first time on the concrete in New York: second attempt instead for Lucrezia Stefanini
The U.S. Open 2022, the last Slam of the tennis season that will kick off, in its main draw, on Monday, August 29, is fast approaching. In the women’s field, on the WTA circuit, there are already four Italian players included in the main draw: they are Camila Giorgi, Martina Trevisan, Jasmine Paolini and Lucia Bronzetti.
To these three more could be added, but they will have to go through the jungle of the qualifying draw: we are talking about Sara Errani, Elisabetta Cocciaretto and Lucrezia Stefanini. The former is an absolute veteran of the circuit, having already participated eleven times in the American Slam. Memorable were her performances in 2012, when she even reached the semifinals, in which she was later defeated by Serena Williams. For Cocciaretto, on the other hand, this is her first attempt to enter the prestigious tournament, while Lucrezia Stefanini stopped in the second round of qualifying last year.
The term WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) refers to that association that brings together all female professional tennis players from all corners of the world. The WTA, like the ATP, has as its main objective the organization and management of all WTA events, as well as the compilation of the ranking, called the WTA ranking.
