He struggled mightily but Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz advanced through the second round of the men’s singles at Roland Garros. The world number 3 Spaniard beat the Dutch Jesper De Jong, number 176, with a score of 6-3 6-4 2-6 6-2.

Three hours and 10 minutes was the duration of the match in which Alcaraz lost his serve five times, the first in the second game of the match, the second and third when he è collapsed from 1-1 to 1-5 in the third set, and finally the fourth and fifth in the first and third games of the fourth set, in which his opponent the serve never è managed to hold it.

In total, Alcaraz faced 12 break points saving 7 of them, while he had 18 of them converting 8. In the second round, the 21-year-old Murcian will face the winner of the match between South Korean Kwon and U.S. Sebastian Korda.

On the other hand, three matches in which Italians were supposed to or did take the court were postponed until tomorrow due to rain: the matches between Matteo Arnaldi and Frenchman Alexandre Muller and between Lorenzo Sonego and Zhizhen Zhang were suspended respectively at 5-3 for the Italian and 4-3 and serve for the Chinese. In contrast, the match between Elisabetta Cocciaretto and Spain’s Cristina Bucsa did not even begin.
