Advent Tournament, results
The 57th edition of the Avvenire Tournament, an international Tennis Europe Under 14 Category 1 tournament, the only one in Italy, played at the Ambrosiano Club in Milan from June 1 to 8, ended. Winning the men’s title was the Dutch Stan Put’who defeated Finland’s Alex Tuomolin 6-0, 6-2 in the final while the women’s title ended up to Romania’s Maria Valentina Pop who defeated Israel’s Daniel Baranes in the final with a score of 4-6, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (10)
Two finals that sealed the historic tournament in Milan with a very high technical level, but two matches with two different stories. In the first, the men’s, the holder of the Netherlands triumphed without difficulty, legitimizing a superiority that emerged from the first round of the tournament. Despite the great level expressed by the Finnish player, Put dominated in 50 minutes without ever giving signs of difficulty and conceded just two games to Tuomolin, both in the second set, and wrote his name in the ’roll of honor and in the prestigious “plate” of the ’Future.
The second final è the manifesto of the tournament. A marathon of 3 hours and 13 minutes, a’seesaw of emotions and a balance broken only at the end of a tie break decided 12-10. The Israeli Banares had surprised everyone and, against all odds, won the first set 6-4 and seemed to be flying toward the title when at 3 to 1 she served for 4-1. Then the Romanian Pop è came back into the match and from there; started a head-to-head match where Baranes è went to serve at 5-4. Back to back again until the tie break of the second set that put the challenge back on even footing. The no-holds-barred duel, characterized by the power of Baranes and the regularity of Pop, gave a final tie break point by point in the heartbreak with match points canceled each other until the epilogue of 12-10 for the Romanian Pop celebrated by the large audience of great occasions standing to applaud the new queen of tennis.
