At the proposal of technical coordinator Stefano Rubaudo, in compliance with the regulations, the Italian Swimming Federation has announced the national selection of cross-country swimming that will participate in the Paris Olympics, scheduled to take place in the Seine River with departure and arrival at Pont Alexandre III and a route that extends to Pont de l'Alma, in the heart of Paris, near the Esplanade des Invalides.
Inaugurated for the 1900 World Fair, Pont Alexandre III è 45 meters wide by 107 meters long and bordered by four imposing columns supporting gilded bronze statues.
Italy will be represented for the first time by four athletes: Domenico Acerenza (Fiamme Oro/CC Napoli), Giulia Gabbrielleschi (Fiamme Oro/Nuotatori Pistoiesi), Gregorio Paltrinieri (Fiamme Oro/Coopernuoto) and Ginevra Taddeucci (Fiamme Oro/CC Napoli) who will compete in the 10-kilometer events scheduled for the women on Aug. 8 and the men on Aug. 9. Both trials will begin at 7:30 a.m. Italy has been on the podium for three consecutive editions: bronze by Martina Grimaldi in London 2012, silver by Rachele Bruni in Rio de Janeiro 2016, bronze by Gregorio Paltrinieri in Tokyo 2020 (held in 2021 due to covid) where he also won silver in the 800 freestyle.
