Roger Federer, unexpected words about Novak Djokovic
During the podcast “What now?” with Trevor Noah, Roger Federer spoke about the other members of tennis’ Fab Four club, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray. The interview, given following the release of the documentary 'Twelve final days' about his retirement, è was reported by tennisworlditalia.com. Here are the words of the Swiss star from Basel.
"We hope that Novak Djokovic can continue to break all records. I hope Andy Murray can play as much as his hip allows him to and still have that hunger. Rafael Nadal knew he was also in a difficult situation and hopes he can still win as much as possible".
“Do I know what I have done for tennis? Yes; and most importantly, when I saw the Roland Garros final with Alcaraz and Zverev in 5 sets chasing back and forth, I was saying to myself, 'I did that’” as well.
“I’ve done that many times. We were talking about how I had played 1526 games and I realized I had done many marathons. I’m so ì relieved that I don’t have to go through them anymore. I mean, è it was fun but especially towards the end I remember the warm-up, the breaks and again the warm-up to go out and play”.
“È it was a monumental effort. Now you say, 'What's so important? È just tennis' Yes, è just tennis, but è your life and you tried to do your best in front of people. Now I feel really relieved and I see every athlete or every person who gives; the highest level having all my respect".
