Tragic accident at the Tour of Austria: dead at 25 years old André Drege
Terrible tragedy in cycling: André Drege; Drege, a 25-year-old Norwegian cyclist, è died after a downhill crash during the fourth stage of the Tour of Austria. The Coop-Repsol rider è died after a high-speed crash during the treacherous Grossglockner descent.
The news shocked the competition, which came down to the penultimate stage, from St.Johann to Kals, won by our Filippo Ganna. Drege è ended up off the road in Heiligenblut: help was immediate but there was nothing to be done. The organization announced the cyclist’s death and canceled the stage’s awards ceremony.
It is not è certain that the last stage, scheduled for Sunday, will be raced. Drege had turned pro in 2022, and was about to sign with the Jayco-AlUla team. He was 38th overall. This season he had won the South Aegean Tour' and the 'International Tour of Rhodes' in Greece.
In June last year he had died in similar surroundings Gino Mader at the Tour of Switzerland, during the descent of the Albulapass.
