Paola Egonu was born in Cittadella on Dec. 10, 1998, to Nigerian parents and began playing volleyball at age 12 on the advice of her father Ambrose, joining the local team. In 2015, she achieved her first international triumphs with the Italian national team, winning U18 gold and U20 bronze at the World Championships.
That same year, she was selected for the senior national team, participating in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. In a short time, she emerges as one of the key figures, dragging the Azzurre to win a silver medal at the World Championships in 2018 and gold at the European Championships in 2021.
Egonu è quickly became the iconic player of Italian volleyball, renowned for the power of her dunks and her explosiveness. She aspires to be remembered not only for her athletic abilities but also for her human qualities, actively engaging in social causes such as the fight against racism and violence against women.
Her personal life è rich in friendships, hobbies and projects, with a particular passion for manga. In Paris she will live her third Olympic experience, bringing with her; humility and an unrelenting desire to win, hoping to add to her rich palmares an Olympic medal as well.
