Paris Olympics: Azzurri to medal
Born in Bolzano on August 9, 1996, Simone Giannelli began his sports career with soccer, skiing and especially tennis, of which his father è coach. Later came volleyball, where he began his adventure in the youth ranks of Sudtirol. In 2010 he landed at Trento, where he played in the youth ranks until 2014, before being attached to the first team. Over the course of his seven years with the Trentino team, he won a scudetto, a World Club Championship and a CEV Cup. In 2021 he moved to Perugia, where he added more titles and individual awards to his palmares.
Crystal-clear talent and class to spare, at just 18 years old he made his debut on the senior national team, surprising everyone with his talents and maturity on the court. In the Azzurri jersey, his various achievements include Olympic silver in Rio 2016, European gold in 2021 and World Cup victory in 2022. His role as setter è the most imaginative one and to perform it there's a need for application and a lot of understanding with teammates, but for him it is not è a problem.
Giannelli è enrolled in the Faculty of Food Science at the University of Milan and on his nightstand there'è always a book to read. In addition to reading, the class of 1997 è also enjoys music and movies and follows tennis and athletics with involvement.
In the future he would like to be a nutritionist but at the moment he is only focused on Paris 2024, his third experience in a five-ring tournament, where he will try to lead the Azzurri to another medal.
