Bianca Andreescu è tired of losing to Jasmine Paolini

6-1 3-6 6-0 in one’hour and 33 minutes in the third round of Roland Garros. 7-6 6-1 in one’hour and 31 minutes in the third round of Wimbledon. 6-7 6-2 6-4 in two hours and 48 minutes in the first round of the US Open. These were the scores and duration of this year’s three matches in Grand Slam tournaments all won by Jasmine Paolini against Bianca Andreescu.

The most closely fought è was definitely the one played tonight on the Louis Armstrong court in Flushing Meadows: the 28-year-old Tuscan from Bagni di Lucca è managed once again to win, this time  in a comeback over the 24-year-old Canadian from Mississauga, Ontario, who on the New York concrete è managed to triumph in 2019, her golden year, dominating in a final without history none other than Serena Williams.

In short, Jasmine is becoming a real nightmare for Bianca, who is trying to return to a high level after she touched world No. 4 five years ago (now è 167) before being stopped by an’impressive series of injuries. So’at the time of the final handshake, there’è was a nice little joke between the two protagonists of a beautiful challenge.

Andreescu, after hugging her, told Jasmine “Let me win next time, please!” meaning “Let me win next time, please!” and the world number 5 è burst out laughing. Then Paolini in the press conference praised her opponent: "I am exhausted, è it was a really tough match. È a great champion. We have played three times this year and each time è it was a battle”.
