Ferrari: Vasseur doesn’t send Charles Leclerc a message
Charles Leclerc’s second place leaves a bitter taste in everyone’s mouth at Ferrari: team principal Frederic Vasseur è visibly disappointed after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, and he did not hesitate to criticize his driver after the finish. "The rear tires did not help Leclerc, but that should not be an excuse".
"He è probably he was a bit’ optimistic after the first stint becauseé we were very comfortable and the’introduction of the Hard was very important anyway and so he didn’t push as much after the pit stop".
"Maybe it wasn’t the right approach at that stage, becauseé on the final è it was very difficult to try to overtake Piastri, and when you are behind you damage the tires moreù than when you are in front. Piastri’s overtaking? We were on the first lap of the stint, it was important to conserve the tires, and maybe he didn’t see that Piastri was soì fast in the straight, so he è was caught by surprise".
A missed opportunity: " We had the potential to win with the package we had on the track in Baku. We were starting from pole, we were dominating, and so before we talk about the next updates or developments we have to make sure we do our best with what we have. I think we had room today to do a better job all together, but è it went the way it ’è went. In the end, è came the podium with a 2° place, we are doing more points than Red Bull, we are taking them back in the Constructors’ World Championship and that è important. But è it’s true that there’s some kind of frustration that we lost to Piastri and Carlos’s accident".
