WTA 1000 Beijing, Coco Gauff triumph, Karolina Muchova dominated in final
After nine months of abstinence Coco Gauff, world No. 6, è returned to winning a tournament by triumphing in the WTA 1000 on the concrete in Beijing. The 20-year-old American beat Czech Karolina Muchova, number 49, in the final with a score of 6-1 6-3.
The first set was dominated by Coco who twice breached her opponent in the second and sixth games and then closed out the partial set on the third set point after saving a break ball.
Muchova has a reaction at the’beginning of the second set by going up 2-0 but Gauff reverses the situation, goes to 4-2 and misses two set points for 5-2, but the second break, which closes the match, still comes at 5-3 after an hour and a quarter of play.
For Gauff è the eighth win in a WTA major circuit tournament and the second in a 1000 after the one in Cincinnati last year when she always beat Muchova, a talented and unlucky tennis player, who lost her fifth final out of six in her career.
