Mei’s words

Winning. Grow. Making a mark. È began in Trento the Festival dello Sport, the seventh edition of the’event organized by the Gazzetta and Trentino Marketing that brings together hundreds of sports stars, from’Italy and around the world, in four days of meetings, interviews, face-to-face, hands-on activities, until Sunday.

On Friday, in the Philharmonic Hall, è FIDAL President Stefano Mei spoke, among the guests on the panel “From Olympics to Marathon: 42,195 meters of excitement and solidarity”. “Italian athletics is living a good moment, the situation è rosy – the words of Mei, who during the opening of the Festival met and greeted world athletics legend Carl Lewis – We have a very large base of athletes who can aspire to win an international medal. When I think of the 17 finalists for Paris 2024, 70 percent more than the Tokyo Olympics, I am confident for the future. To make this qualitative leap; we have invested a lot in technical activity and will continue to do so, optimizing the resources available”.

The president also addressed issues related to the world of running: “As president of the Federation, I am proud to be able to collaborate with RCS Sports & Events, which is doing a lot of work on events and road running. The Milano Marathon è a very fascinating race, it offers ideal conditions for running in Italy. In general, marathons are an important asset and the Federation must make the most of them. We are working so thaté we move forward on the path traced by the Lupi motion on the subject of medical certificates, soì as to allow a greater presence of foreign athletes, with an increase of 30-40% in the number of participants”.

The meeting was attended by Athens 2004 Olympic marathon champion Stefano Baldini, RCS Sports & Events CEO Paolo Bellino, Claudia Rocchi and Chiara Nizzola of the TOG Foundation, ‘Charity of the Year’ of the Wizz Air Milano Marathon 2025 to be held on April 6, and Alberto Fiasconaro marketing and communications director of Cisalfa Group.
