Marco Mazzieri is the new FIBS president: “We don’t want to leave anyone behind.”

Marco Mazzieri è was proclaimed FIBS president for the four-year term 2025-28. È the ninth president in the history of the Italian Baseball Softball Federation. "If they had told me 50 years ago that I would be president of this movement that has given me so much, I would not have believed it. We really want to be everyone’s Federation, we don’t want to leave anyone behind and we want to put the whole movement in a position to work at its best. Thank you really to everyone" said the Grosseto native.

Mazzieri will be able to count on the support of the Federal Council composed as follows: Pierluigi Bissa, Stefano Sbardolini, Federica Morri, Marina Centrone, Sabrina Olivero, Marco Mannucci, Sergio Piccinini in affiliation quota. Andrea Sgnaolin, Emanuela Giovinazzo in athlete quota. Ettore Finetti in technician quota. The Chairman of the Board of Auditors è Dr. Federico Loda.

Marco Mazzieri è was elected with 56.04% of the vote while Andrea Marcon got 42.70%. Blank ballots accounted for 1.26 percent of the total.

Marco Mazzieri, born in Grosseto on Dec. 20, 1962, took his first steps as a player in Roselle. In 1980 he had his first presence with the Bbc Grosseto, with which he will play continuously until 2000, with the ‘Bolognese parenthesis, between Calze Verdi Casalecchio first (1 year) and Fortitudo Bologna then between 1991 and 1993. He played more than 1,000 games in baseball’s top league, wearing the number 5, retired in 2011 by the Maremma club.. In the national team, as a player, he was part of the Azzurri selection from the 1985 European Championship until the 1990 World Cup, for a total of 73 appearances. He moved on to lead the bench of the junior national team and won the European title in 2007, a success that earned him ‘promotion’ to manager of the senior national team, with which he climbed to the top step of the continental podium in 2010 and 2012 and, in 2010, won bronze at the last Intercontinental Cup in Taiwan in the final for third place against the hosts. In 2009, 2013 and 2017 he guided the Azzurri to the World Baseball Classic, reaching the second phase in 2013. Guided the Europe selection twice against Samurai Japan in the 2015 and 2024 Global Baseball Series. In 2017 è was honored by the European Baseball Coaches Association with the Career Achievement Award. È Chairman of the Coach Commission of the World Baseball Softball Confederation.
