Lecce wins salvation challenge, Monza still knocked out and last

Lecce won 2-1 against Monza at Via del Mare in the 12:30 p.m. match of the 16th day of Serie A thanks to goals from Morente and Krstovic. Giampaolo’s team momentarily climbs to 13th place, +4 from the relegation zone, while Nesta’s Brianzoli remain last on 10 points along with Venezia.

First half spectacular and full of episodes, the hosts start better and at 3' they are ahead thanks to Morente, launched from the back by Berisha. The Salentini could double but wasted a penalty shot (awarded for a foul on Dorgu) at 15': Krstovic had his shot rejected by Turati.

Monza got back into the game thanks to Dorgu's absurd own goal, who in an attempt to lean on his goalkeeper overcame him with a lob, giving Nesta’s team the 1-1. Before halftime, Lecce went ahead again: Krstovic made up for his missed penalty by getting past Turati after a lucky rebound at 44'.

Lots of peculiar episodes in the second half as well: Monza gets its equalizing goal cancelled at 58' for offside by Bianco. Then the VAR intervenes twice and cancels two penalties awarded by Mariani: the first at 61' for Monza (Guilbert’s arm touch outside the penalty area), the second for Lecce (previous offside by Rebic). The result remains so; and Lecce conquers three precious points in the salvation key.
