Coach Gianmarco Pozzecco commented on the incredible victory over Serbia that earned the quarterfinals at Eurobasket 2022.

“One of the most beautiful games in the history of the national team, played with great heart by all the guys. We amazed everyone with an absolute top performance against a very strong team, Serbia, who tried everything to win. Easy to mention Marco Spissu’s incredible game, but all the guys should be mentioned, no one excluded. We have a big heart, a little bit of madness and a lot of compactness. Maybe we are a team that no one wants to face. A night we will remember for a long time.”

He was echoed by Edoardo Casalone, who took over for Pozzecco, who was ejected, from the 25th minute: “We have to thank all the players,” he said, “for the race they offered. All of us, first and foremost the guys put in the desire to show that they can play games at this level. I think all of Italy can be proud for this victory. It is an honor to wear this jersey.”
