L'Olimpia renews with Euroleague but doesn't close to NBA Europe

L’Olimpia Milano has decided to remain loyal to the Euroleague. Certainly the renewal of the 10-year license with Euroleague (the new agreement will expire in 2026). A decision made together with 10 other European clubs. The reason? To remain united to address, as a group, the NBA Europe issue.

In fact, the contract renewal with Euroleague is by no means a rejection of the NBA Europe project. Ettore Messina, a coach with a notable history in the’NBA, points to dialogue with NBA, so as to find a solution that can please all parties involved.

Real Madrid and Barcelona have, however, taken other directions. The two Spaniards, in fact, have not renewed and have been stalling. They want to understand how the’NBA wants to move and preferred not to have any ties with Euroleague (their contract will expire at the end of next season).

Now there is to figure out what the NBA and FIBA, i.e., who is in charge of the NBA Europe project, will do. Finding a solution that will suit all the components involved seems rather complex, not least because NBA is a brand with a very peculiar and elitist approach to the market. News is expected in the coming weeks. In the meantime, Olimpia Milano has made its first move, deciding not to abandon the Euroleague, which, all of a sudden, is in a very strong position.
