Roland Garros, Musetti lasts two sets, then retires: Alcaraz in final

This was not how Lorenzo Musetti’s Roland Garros was supposed to end. The Carrarino, world number 7, after giving world number two Carlos Alcaraz a hard time for two sets, felt a pain in his left thigh in the third set, which he lost sharply, and withdrew in the fourth.

4-6 7-6 6-0 2-0 the final score accrued in favor of the Spaniard after nearly two and a half hours of play. In the first set the Italian was much more concrete than the Spaniard, who conceded something and ran into a bad game in the 10th game that cost him the first set (4-6).

The Spaniard was the winner of the first set.

In the second set the number two seed reacts, snatching the serve to zero from Musetti in the third game (2-1). Alcaraz, however, does not confirm the break lead (2-2). The Spaniard went back ahead by a break in the 11th game (6-5) but was taken back again by the Carraraz (6-6). At the tie-break, however, Alcaraz is flawless and wins it 7-3.

With the inertia in his favor in the third set Alcaraz ramps up, also accomplice to a physical problem felt by Musetti in his left thigh. The Murcian makes the third set his in 22 minutes with a clear 6-0.

Alcaraz also goes ahead immediately in the fourth set (2-0) before Musetti raises the white flag. The Spaniard returns to the final at Roland Garros where he will face the winner of the’other highly anticipated semifinal between Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic.
