Behind the Slovenian are Remco Evenepoel and Jonas Vingegaard, then Jorgenson, Vauquelin and Onley. Tuesday is scheduled for a rest day, then come the Pyrenees, which will give the Tour another shake’s life.

So stage winner Simon Yates: “It was a tough start, there were good riders in the breakaway, that’s why I tried to attack before the start of the final climb. I did the best I could. After six years I came back to win here, I never expected that. I am here to help Vingegaard, today there was an opportunity to win the stage and I managed to do it”.
