Now it is official: Nicola Zalewski is a new player of Atalanta. It was announced by the Nerazzurri club itself through an official statement in which it announced the purchase of the Polish outfielder on a permanent basis from Inter.
The Italian-Polish outside midfielder, who has chosen 59 as his shirt number, already has 95 Serie A appearances to his credit as well as 26 in the UEFA Europa League and 7 in the UEFA Conference League, the latter competition won with Roma in May 2022. A remarkable wealth of experience at only 23 years old, further ennobled not only by his 2 appearances in the Champions League and the same number in the Club World Cup, but also by his participation with the Polish national team in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and the 2024 European Championship in Germany. With the Polish national team he has so far made 29 appearances and scored 3 goals.
Born in Tivoli on January 23, 2002, he began his football training when he was only six years old in the province of Rome first at ASD Poli and then at Zagarolo. His precocious talent was noticed by Roma, where he played for ten years in the youth sector until making his first-team debut on May 6, 2021, at the age of 19, in the return match of the UEFA Europa League semifinals. The following May 9, he also made his Serie A debut in the victorious match against Crotone.
At the beginning of the 2021/22 season he was permanently included in the first team, and on May 25, 2022, he played as a starter in the victorious UEFA Conference League final against Feyenoord.
In the following season, still with Roma in which he is often employed as a starter (34 times in 45 appearances between the league and UEFA Europa League), he scored his first Serie A goal on March 12, 2023 against Sassuolo.
On February 1, 2025, he moved on a temporary basis to Inter: the following day, in the league derby against AC Milan, he served the decisive assist for the final 1-1. On May 11, however, he scored his first goal with Inter in the 2-0 home win over Torino. At the end of last season, Inter redeemed him outright from Roma.
Having dual citizenship, he chooses to represent his parents’ country of origin football-wise, namely Poland, with which he makes his debut on Sept. 5, 2021. He plays two matches at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and three matches at the 2024 European Championship in Germany, the latter event in preparation for which he scores his first goal with Poland on June 10, 2024, in the 2-1 friendly win over Turkey.
The team will be playing in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
