Luca Zidane, Granada goalkeeper and son of Algerian-born former French soccer star Zinedine, has chosen the national team of Algeria.

Algerian local media, including the Arabic-language daily El Khabar (the news), report this, citing well-informed sources. The extreme defender, 27, is expected to join the “Foxes” next November when the team coached by Vladimir Petkovic will play some friendlies.

Sources close to the goalkeeper indicate, again according to El Khabar, that Luca’s debut with the North African selection is now a matter of weeks.

Algerian Football Federation president Walid Sadi has reportedly convinced Zidane Jr. to make the final choice, thus ending the controversy around the role of the goalkeeper ahead of the next African Cup of Nations, scheduled for December in Morocco.

Luca Zidane, who also has Spanish citizenship and has always played on the Iberian peninsula, won the Under-17 European Championship in 2015 with France, but has never played for the Bleus’ senior national team.
