Mika Hakkinen is back to talk about what happened on Saturday in Singapore, with Max Verstappen being forced to pit as he was about to get pole position.
“This was a weekend where Max could have won the World Championship, but the team’s mistake in qualifying on Saturday really cost him,” the two-time world champion explained to Unibet.
“It’s quite unusual for a team to ask a driver to stop a qualifying lap, especially one that actually looked pretty good, but to find out later that they didn’t have enough fuel to complete another lap was embarrassing. Red Bull has been very operationally efficient all season, so this mistake was quite surprising.”
