Coppa Italia: Genoa recovers Empoli and gives itself to Atalanta

The final day of the Italian Cup round of 16 opened with a comeback victory for Genoa, which beat Empoli 3-1. At ‘Ferraris’ the Tuscans took the lead through Saporiti but Frendrup, Marcandalli and Ekhator overturned the result, giving the Grifone qualification.
Twelve minutes passed and the guests took the lead with a free kick by Saporiti. The reaction of the hosts is immediate: after three minutes Frendrup evens the score with a left-footed shot from a close position that beats Perisan.
At the beginning of the second half, the Rossoblù completed the comeback: cross by Venturino, spizzata by Colombo and winning deflection by Marcandalli. In the final there’s also room for the Grifone’s tic-tac-toe with Ekhator depositing into the net on an assist from Thorsby.
The Grifone also scored the third goal.
Thanks to this victory, Genoa flies to the round of 16 of the Coppa Italia where it will face Atalanta. The Grifone will be back on the pitch Monday night at 8:45 p.m. at the ‘Ferraris’ with Lazio for the fifth day of Serie A, while Empoli will host Carrarese on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. in the fifth day of Serie B.
