Josip Ilicic makes a comeback in his homeland
Former Atalanta player returns to his homeland
Josip Ilicic is returning to his homeland. The former player of Atalanta, Fiorentina and Palermo among others, who was released after five seasons with the Bergamo-based club, has decided to get back into the game.
The Slovenian will start again from Maribor, a club where he already played in 2010 before being bought by Palermo, with which he made his debut in Serie A.
On Ilicic it seems there was also the interest of some Italian clubs, but the class of 1988 has decided to return to his homeland after twelve years and on the jersey he will once again wear the number 72.
About the return of the trequartista, the sporting director of the violets Marko Suler spoke, to the official channels of Maribor : “A great event for everyone, it is a matter that undoubtedly comes out of the box and means a lot. Not only for Maribor, but for Slovenian soccer in general. It’s a special bond between Josip and Maribor, which also led to the successful outcome of a tough challenge. An idea that might have seemed unrealistic to some came true. A lot of work and energy had to be invested in order to succeed. But Josip is here, he chose Maribor, and that is also why Maribor is different from others. This time the presentation of the reinforcement is different, as it announces the arrival of a player about whom it is useless to waste words. He has marked the history of Maribor and Slovenian soccer, but he still has golden years ahead of him.”
Ilicic will be presented on Wednesday afternoon, October 5.
