The officiality of the transfer of the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium to Inter and Milan by the Municipality of Milan, which came after a packed session of the City Council ended in the night between Monday and Tuesday, was commented with great satisfaction by Beppe Marotta, CEO of the Nerazzurri club, on the sidelines of Inter-Slavia Prague in the Champions League.

“It was a very tribulated decision – Marotta told the microphones of ‘Sky Sport‘ -We are happy and satisfied with what has been decided, I say this as president of Inter, as a soccer fan and as a citizen of Milan. Now begins a difficult path, full of difficulties. But both parties, Katherine Ralph and Paolo Scaroni, will embark on a path that will surely bring great satisfaction. The need to have a stadium for Inter and Milan was a priority goal”.

Marotta then also wanted to address those who have expressed doubts about what will be achieved in the future: “I want to reassure everyone. Inter and Milan are acting in transparency and in the interests of the Milanese community. A stadium represents an asset not only for the two clubs, but for the entire city of Milan. It will bring new jobs and many tourists”.

The Giuseppe Meazza Stadium was built between 1925 and 1926: it has hosted Milan since its inauguration and Inter since 1947 (the Nerazzurri had played between 1926 and 1947 at the Via Goldoni field first and then at the Arena Civica). Four renovations completed in 1939, 1955, 1990 (for the World Cup, with the’addition of the third ring) and 2016, respectively. In 2026 it will be the stage for the opening ceremony of the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympic Games.
