Julia Scheib is the first winner of the year in the 2025-2026 Alpine Ski World Cup season. Indeed, the Austrian skier came out on top in the inaugural race, the giant slalom in Sölden, Austria, routing the competition between the poles of the Rettenbach slope in the two heats and thus claiming her first overall World Cup victory.

Scheib, who had also finished in first position in the first run, was 58 hundredths of a second ahead of Paula Moltzan of the United States and one second and 11 hundredths ahead of Lara Gut-Behrami, one of the favorites on the eve of the race. In the Top 5 is another American, five-time overall CdM winner Mikaela Shiffrin, fourth at 1″42 behind the winner and just ahead of Norway″s Thea Louise Stjernesund (+1″53).

Little glory for the Italian colors: the only Italian representative in the second run was Asja Zenere, who finished in 17th position, recovering two in the second run, with an overall gap of 2″76. Out after the first run were Laura Steinmair, Giorgia Collomb, Ilaria Ghisalberti, Giulia Vallerani, Sophie Mathiou and Elisa Platino.

Day to forget for Lara della Mea and Sofia Goggia, both of whom fell during the first run. Both went out of the race during the third sector and thus had to close early their race on the Austrian track. Next event for the women’s CdM is the special slalom in Levi, Finland, on November 15.
