Napoli, attack doesn't get unblocked even in Champions League: ends in a scoreless draw with Eintracht Frankfurt

Three days after the one against Como in the league, a 0-0 draw also arrives in the Champions League, again at the Maradona, for Napoli, blocked at home on the fourth day of the League Phase by Eintracht Frankfurt’Eintracht Frankfurt. Antonio Conte’s team thus rises to 4 points in as many matches, an average that, however, forces the partenopei to remain far from the top of the class.

After a good start for the visiting team (Bahoya’s shot on 3′ however, does not create any problems for Milinkovic-Savic), Napoli grew during the first half and came close to scoring several times: however, Hojlund and Anguissa bungled from a good position on 7′, McTominay was not precise with his header three minutes later and Elmas, on 14′ saw a good shot rejected by Zetterer. The opening fraction, however, offers no further excitement.

The pace in the second half is bland, the two teams do not discover themselves and the coaches wait twenty minutes for the first change, with Knauff taking over Bahoya for Eintracht and David Neres taking the place of Politano for Napoli. Shortly after, at 69′, another McTominay conclusion, Koch, however, muffles the Scot’s attempt with his body.

Further changes around the half-hour mark: Lang replaces Lobotka for Napoli at 74′ and a couple of minutes later tries a shot on goal (which, however, finds Anguissa on the trajectory), Shkiri takes over from Larsson for the guests at 79′. The last minutes were livelier: Napoli ici tried with Anguissa and the usual McTominay, but without finding the goal, on the other side Gutierrez came close to an unlucky own goal on Gotze’s cross, but the ball did not go in for the home crowd’s sigh of relief.

The last chance of note is for Elmas in the salvage, but Zetterer is alert.

It ends 0-0, Napoli confirms its difficulties in the scoring phase (just one goal in the last three games between the league and Champions League, the last striker to score was Hojlund on Oct. 5 against Genoa) and will have to wait for the match against Qarabag, also not scheduled in the Campania capital on Nov. 25, to try to regain success in the European sphere.
