Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, world number 1, beat the U.S.’s Taylor Fritz, number 6, with a score of 6-7 7-5 6-3 in his second match of the elimination round named after Jimmy Connors of the ATP Finals on the indoor concrete of the Inalpi Arena in Turin.
Already the first two games are hard-fought: two break points canceled by Fritz in the first, three by Alcaraz, including two consecutive ones, in the second, then break and counterbreak in the third and fourth games! For the rest of the set the only one to save break points is Alcaraz, two more at 4-3 for Fritz. It goes to the tie-break, which is dominated 7-2 by the American.
Once again the Murcian suffers on his own serve: on 2-2 he saves two break points and wins the game after 22 points. It was then Fritz who avoided the break at 4-3 for Carlitos, but at 6-5 he went down 0-40 and Alcaraz evened the set count on the second of three consecutive chances.
In the third set the decisive break for Alcaraz comes at 3-2 in his favor. On 5-2 he has three more break points that are also match points, the first two consecutive, he misses them but in the next game he holds serve to zero and closes the match after 2 hours and 48 minutes of play.
