Luciano Darderi in the columns of Gazzetta dello Sport reported on his preparation in Dubai ahead of the upcoming season. The Italian tennis player has been living in the UAE for more than a year and will stay there to train until early January, when he will move to Auckland for the first tournament of the season. In Dubai, he crossed rackets with world number two Jannik Sinner, who is also preparing for the Australian Open 2026, his first major goal of the season.

L'world-renowned coach Patrick Mouratoglou has no doubts: a player is about to counter the dominance of the'Alto Adige and Murciano

"This year has grown exponentially, is coming"

Mouratoglou is referring to Brazilian Joao Fonseca, tennis’s new rising star
"He too has had ups and downs. He experienced what it means to feel incredible pressure"
"You can imagine how much the Brazilian fans support him, and it’s a big responsibility for such a young guy"

"He’s exploding like a bomb, just look at his ranking"

"He is the future of men’s tennis"
"He has the potential to compete in the coming years with Alcaraz and Sinner"

"He has everything it takes to be able to beat them"

Fonseca at 19 has already won two career ATP titles
He's the'only teenager among the top 100 in the ATP rankings

“He is a boy of few words and lots of substance. Just training and hard work. The last time was during Roland Garros. Compared to the level of the matches I played in India, it is a whole different thing: the heaviness of the ball and the continuity in dribbling make the difference”. Darderi made a particular comparison: “I felt like on a spaceship that left Earth and landed on Mars. Yes, Jannik is a Martian”. L’Azure also posted a photo with Sinner and their respective staffs on the court: there are also Vagnozzi and Cahill.

“These are tests that I need so much to understand what I lack to move up the ladder – continued Darderi -. In the last year I have entered the top 30 in the world, the goal for 2026 is to enter the top 20. It is not an obsession, but a definite direction. I know that tennis is a sport that requires huge sacrifices, and I am fully aware of that. I’m not one to back down, though. If there is a marathon every day to be among the best, I do it. If there is a mountain to climb, I climb it”.

“The season is about to begin. Always on the move, always traveling, always ready for new experiences. With only one goal in front of my eyes: to bring out the best in myself, every day” wrote Darderi. Last year the Italo-Argentine tennis player won three ATP tournaments, in Marrakech, Bastad and Umag.

Currently he occupies 26th place in the ATP rankings: it is his best position ever and he is the fourth Italian in the ATP rankings after Sinner, Lorenzo Musetti and Flavio Cobolli.
