Maurizio Sarri operated for atrial fibrillation, Lazio reassures all

The operation that Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri underwent on Monday to resolve an atrial fibrillation was perfectly successful. This was announced by the same club a few hours after the operation itself, with a note in which the Biancoceleste club, in addition to reassuring the whole environment, thanked Professor Andrea Natale and the Tor Vergata Polyclinic. Sarri will resume training with the team in the coming days and is not expected to miss any official commitments.
This is the club statement:“S.S. Lazio announces that coach Maurizio Sarri, following a finding of atrial fibrillation, underwent transcatheter ablation surgery with PFA technology at Policlinico Tor Vergata. The surgery, performed by Professor Andrea Natale, an international pioneer with more than 30 years of experience in the treatment of this pathology, was successful. Present at the surgery was the Social Physician of S.S. Lazio, Dr. Italo Leo”.
Transcatheter ablation with PFA technology is a technique that has been used effectively for a number of years for the treatment of certain cardiac arrhythmias, especially atrial fibrillation, a condition noted in an examination conducted by the technician that led to the decision to operate. “The coach will resume regularly in the next few days the guidance of the team– the note further reads -S.S. Lazio and the coach thank Policlinico Tor Vergata and Professor Natale’s team for their high professionalism and the quality of care guaranteed daily to all patients”.
Born in 1959, Maurizio Sarri returned to lead Lazio at the start of this season, having previously led the biancocelesti between 2021 and March 2024. His best achievement was a second-place finish in the 2022-2023 season, the season of the Scudetto won by Spalletti’s Napoli, which was worth qualifying for the Champions League the following year.
In this year’s season, the coach faced the first part of the season with a squad limited by last summer’s market freeze, a ban lifted since January. Despite this, Lazio ended 2025 with 24 points in 17 games, just three points away from the Europa zone. The Biancocelesti are also in the running for the Coppa Italia: they will face defending champions Bologna in the quarterfinals.
