Enoch Boakye, Serie A in his future: the Canadian giant knows exactly what he wants

On Sunday, Reyer Venezia officially announced the signing of Enoch Boakye, a 211-centimeter, 113-kilogram Canadian center born in Brampton, Ontario, on March 24, 2003, who played in Europe last year—first for SC Derby Podgorica, a Montenegrin club in the ABA League, and then for Spiroi Charleroi in the Belgian league.
There had been talk of Boakye coming to Italy—and specifically to the Veneto region—for quite some time, with Reyer always in the lead, although there was also talk of possibility of sending him on loan, at least for the first year. Instead, Boakye himself has openly stated that his goal is to seize every opportunity available to carve out a role in coach Neven Spahija’s rotation.
“I’m excited and grateful to begin this new chapter with Reyer,” he told the club’s official channels. “When I heard about the orange-and-gold club’s interest, I was immediately intrigued. The first thing I asked was where the team was based, and when they told me it was in Italy, a smile spread across my face. Then I immediately thought about the level of the league and the EuroCup: they’re highly respected competitions and represent a great opportunity.”
“I’m a player who puts defense and hard work first,” he added, explaining his strengths. “I bring energy, I enjoy being with my teammates, and I want to contribute to the winning culture that Reyer has built over the past few years. I don’t know Kyle Wiltjer personally, but as a Canadian, I’ve always followed his career. I know he plays for the national team, and it’ll be great to share this experience with him in Venice. I can’t wait to start this adventure.”
