Filippo Ganna and the 60,000 euro bike: “A rocket”
Filippo Ganna celebrates yet another gold in the pursuit and the world record
Fifth rainbow gold in the individual pursuit at the Track Cycling World Championships for Filippo Ganna, who also set a new record in 3’59″636″. After the race, the Verbania phenomenon commented on his performance this way, “This morning at 10:30 I didn’t even want to start, I didn’t want to do the pursuit. The truth is that I wanted to go on vacation. Then my teammates came and cheered me on and told me that I had to try. I have to thank them, because they believed in it and so I believed in me too. The audience also gave me a great boost, especially when they realized that I could break the world record.”
After a not-so-fast start, Ganna found an irresistible progression, “I used the Hour Record bike. I hope that in two years Pinarello will find a way to make it start a little easier,” he explained, referring to the bike made by Pinarello, worth 60 thousand euros. “The first ride is heavy because it is very difficult to launch. Then once it is launched it is really a rocket, the engineers have managed to do something extraordinary,” are the words reported by Oasport.
