In the last few days, Milan has made great strides toward Mike Maignan’s contract renewal, which is now getting closer and closer. The French goalkeeper will continue to defend the Rossoneri’s goal next season: according to Sky reports, the most significant obstacle, namely the commissions demanded by the 1995-born extreme defender’s agents, has also been removed. The appointment for the decisive meeting has been set in the coming days, but by now only the last details have to be ironed out.

Maignan, set to expire in June 2026, is set to tie the rest of his goalkeeping life to Milan on a contract until 2030 or 2031. The Rossoneri captain will receive for the next few years a 5.7 million euros net salary per season as a fixed base, plus bonuses linked to personal and team results. Thanks to this salary increase, Maignan will go on to receive a similar emolument to Rafael Leao, the highest-paid player on the meneghini’s roster.

On his trail were several English clubs, including Chelsea, but the player and the Rossoneri managers, particularly Igli Tare, strongly wanted the deal. Massimiliano Allegri himself reportedly pressed for a positive resolution of the deal. Maignan is at AC Milan from 2021: the French goalkeeper is enjoying a season at a high level, and has kept his goal unbeaten in eleven out of twenty-four total matches counting all competitions this season.

Allegri on Maignan’s renewal had openly exposed himself: “Is renewal more difficult for Furlani after such a night? It is a problem of the society. I am very happy, for great teams you need great players, with a mix of guys. If there are players who cost 100 million and players who cost 1, there is a reason. You have to keep strong people on the field”.

“It is right that Milan has great players. Mike is one of the three strongest goalkeepers in the world”, he had said in a press conference.
