Through a lengthy letter posted on his Instagram profile, Salva Ferrer announced his retirement from playing soccer following ongoing hip problems. The Catalan footballer has long been held back by this trouble and will now have to undergo surgery to have a prosthesis fitted.

“If in November 2023 I told you that to fight against cancer fear was useless, in February 2026 I tell you that it is also useless for you to read this message with sorrow or sadness. I am doing this for my own good, for my health, because there is nothing more important” wrote Salva Ferrer to his followers.

“My hip has said enough. Even before chemotherapy I was already suffering from some discomfort, but the treatment weakened the area even more and now I need a prosthesis. At 28 years old and with a whole life ahead of me, I don’t want the sport that made me so happy to suffer any more. I want to thank CE Europe, wholeheartedly, for all the facilities it has given me”.

“Despite not being able to defend the jersey “escapulada”, this club will always be important to me. Thank you Martorell, CF Damm, Gimnastic, Spice and Anorthosis for being part of this journey. Also, even if I hang up my boots, I will not leave soccer. A new stage begins, with the same enthusiasm as when I was a child” concluded the Catalan footballer.

At the age of 1998, Salva Ferrer began his career in the ranks of Pobla de Mafumet, later moved to Gimnàstic and in 2019 landed in Italy at Spezia. In November 2023 he announced that he had been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and in May 2025 he returned to play. The following month Spezia sold him for free to CE Europa but hip problems did not allow him to make his debut with the Spanish club.
