Real Madrid, the former great is drastic about the management of Xabi Alonso

Real Madrid’s first part of the season has been rather complicated and the one to pay the price has been Xabi Alonso, who was exonerated about a month ago. The results were not overly bad but the Spanish coach paid dearly for the poor feeling he had with some players (Vinicius Junior in primis).

Interviewed by As, former Real Madrid great Fernando Morientes was particularly critical of the Xabi Alonso affair: “I don&#8217t know if they were unfair with Xabi but he should explain what he was promised, what he was told and what the project was. I think they were unfair with that very project. A project comes about when the company chooses a person as its leader and consciously decides to entrust him or her with the responsibility. In this case that person was Xabi. That is why I think it was unfair to make him the sole and main person responsible for the whole season”.

“With him on the bench the situation was not particularly dire but the results against the important teams weighed. The game against Atletico Madrid was a blow to Real Madrid, then in the Champions League they lost to Liverpool and Manchester City. The kind of soccer Xabi had previously shown at Bayer Leverkusen did not fit this team perfectly but I was still surprised by his exoneration after so few months”.

About the alleged problems in the management of the various stars by Xabi Alonso, Morientes is clear: “What we see from the outside is that Vinicius has a strong personality but the feeling I have, based on what I have seen, is that he has a good relationship with Arbeloa. It is essential that the players share the coach&#8217s vision and have a good feeling”.

Xabi Alonso will not be without a team for long: he is determined to find a bench in the summer and there is no shortage of suitors. England seems the most likely scenario for the Spanish coach, who is in demand by Liverpool to replace Arne Slot and by Manchester City to pick up Pep Guardiola&#8217s legacy. English media say the Citizens also want to contact Vincent Kompany but it is highly unlikely that the Belgian will decide to leave Bayern Munich.
