There will be no rematch between Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic, at least for now. The Serbian tennis player has decided to skip the ATP 500 tournament in Doha, scheduled to begin next weekend, which will feature instead the world’Blue world number two and Carlos Alcaraz, fresh winner of the Australian Open.

Nole, who has been spotted these days in the stands watching ice skating competitions at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics, has decided in the last few hours to forfeit. The Belgrade outfielder, who beat Sinner in Melbourne in the last Australian Open, is expected to return to the court in March, at the first two Masters 1000s of the season in the United States, in Indian Wells and Miami.

Sinner and Alcaraz, on the other hand, will be on court regularly at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open, staged at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex. L’Azzurro, who last year at this time was beginning his suspension for the Clostebol case, has no points to defend and hopes to catch up with the Murcia-based tennis player.

In a recent interview Djokovic praised Sinner and Alcaraz: “I am sure they will dominate tennis for many years. We will see them for a long time at the top. But from my point of view Federer and Nadal are irreplaceable, when they retired, a part of me left tennis”.
